2.85mm / 100g

Fabconstruct Copper is a copper-PLA blend with a copper content of approximately 80%. The filament is easy to print, sand, and polish.

With Fabconstruct Copper, you can create stunning objects with genuine metal properties. The surface not only looks like copper but also feels like it; for instance, the material is three times heavier than standard PLA and offers thermal conductivity.

Due to its high filler content, Fabconstruct Copper exhibits virtually no shrinkage.

A special lubricant improves flow and prevents the material from sticking to the nozzle.

Technical Notes

Fabconstruct Copper can be printed on almost any standard FDM or FFF 3D printer, even with retraction enabled; please also consult your manufacturer's specifications. Tests have yielded excellent results with both Direct Drive and Bowden extruders. A nozzle diameter of ≥ 0.35 mm is recommended.

Due to its high copper content, the filament is abrasive, meaning nozzle wear is significantly higher than with standard PLA filaments. We therefore recommend using hardened stainless steel nozzles; brass nozzles are generally unsuitable.

Fabconstruct Copper can be printed without a heated bed. However, if your 3D printer has a heated bed, the recommended temperature range is 35–60°C.

The filament should be stored in a cool (15–25°C), dry, and dark place. This significantly extends its shelf life.

Post-processing – brushing, grinding, polishing

  • Step 1: Quick brushing with a soft brass brush.
Step 2: Sanding with 600-grit sandpaper and water.
Step 3: Using a Dremel with a polishing wheel and metal polish results in a shiny metal object.
Step 4: This step is optional. If you would like a patina on your printed object for aesthetic reasons, you can treat the object with a mixture of ammonia and soda.
Step 5: This step is optional. For a long-lasting shine, the object can be treated with wax or XTC-3D.
