Spectrum Filaments HIPS-X -
High impact resistance

Spectrum HIPS-X is a backing material designed for additive manufacturing using FDM/FFF technology. It is usually used as a substrate for components produced with ABS, where HIPS-X substrates are dissolved in D-Limonene at the end of the production process. In addition, Spectrum HIPS-X can be used as a base material for the production of components that require less processing shrinkage than ABS.

Spectrum HIPS-X exhibits high impact and compressive strength. It also allows for opaque surfaces with reduced layer visibility. Like ABS, HIPS-X allows for mechanical processing such as grinding, turning, milling, etc. The low hardness of molded items allows sections of the material to be easily separated with sharp tools.

Primarily used as a support material, Spectrum HIPS?X is also designed for industrial applications that require components that are impact resistant or can partially dissipate energy. Due to its low hardness, HIPS-X can be used in the arts, particularly in sculpture.

Material characteristics

  • better aesthetic qualities due to the matte surfaces of the molded items
  • lower shrinkage rate compared to classic ABS
  • possibility of mechanical treatment (drilling, turning, milling or grinding)
  • thermal resistance HDT B 88°C
  • Vicat softening temperature – 96°C
  • high impact resistance
  • ability to absorb and dissipate energy
  • good for large prints
  • light
  • completely soluble in D-Limonene
  • matte surface

Applications

  • support material for ABS
  • industrial applications requiring impact-resistant components or those with partial energy dissipation capabilities
  • conceptual and demonstration prototyping of designed finished and semi-finished products
  • packaging

VERIFY YOUR SPOOL - the most precise quality control system on  the market

Filament for 3D printers is manufactured by the method of free extrusion, which is one of the most difficult processing techniques by extrusion, due to the particularly significant impact of process parameters on product dimensions and material homogenization.

During the production each 1mm of Spectrum Filament is being continuously measured in 2 axes with ±0.8µm accuracy, which allow obtaining a high-quality final product. To prove this, Spectrum Filaments, as one of the few manufacturers in the world, has introduced the possibility of online presentation, individually for each manufactured spool:

  • the course of diameter on the entire length of the spool,
  • mean diameter,
  • ovality,
  • standard deviation.

Precise survey guarantees that Spectrum Filaments products meet rigorous market requirements.
